Box Plot Lab

Type or pick some data to see its box plot, five-number summary and outliers. Drag a dot to see how a single value changes everything.

Examples

How to read a box plot
  • The box covers the middle 50% of the data, from Q1 to Q3. Its width is the IQR.
  • The line inside the box is the median.
  • Whiskers reach the furthest values that are not outliers.
  • With the standard rule, a value is an outlier if it is more than 1.5 x IQR beyond the box.
